FAQs
What is a health coach anyway?
“An individual who uses a set of evidence-based methods and strategies . . . to assist clients in setting and reaching sustainable, self-determined health and wellness goals.” ~ The Center for Credentialing and Education (CCE) (cce-global.org)
The International Coach Federation defines coaching as, “partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential, which is particularly important in today’s uncertain and complex environment. Coaches honor the client as the expert in his or her life and work and believe every client is creative, resourceful, and whole.” (coachfederation.org)
But first, how do we define Health? Wellness? Or Well-being, for that matter?
Health:
“A state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being and not just the absence of sickness or frailty.” World Health Organization, 1948
“Health is a resource for everyday life, not the objective of living. Health is a positive concept emphasizing social and personal resources, as well as physical capacities. WHO, Ottawa Charter For Health Promotion, 1986
Wellness:
“Wellness is an active process through which people become aware of, and make choices toward, a more successful existence” National Institute of Wellness, 1978
“Wellness is a multi-dimensional state of being describing the existence of positive health in an individual as exemplified by quality of life and a sense of well-being.” President’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sport, 2001
Well-Being:
“Well-being includes the presence of positive emotions and moods (e.g., contentment, happiness), the absence of negative emotions (e.g. depression, anxiety), satisfaction with life, fulfillment and positive functioning. In simple terms, well-being can be described as judging life positively and feeling good.” Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2016.
This is a frequently asked question?
It all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more. Or maybe you have a creative project to share with the world. Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.
What is the process like?
1. Through my unique process of assessing your overalI wellness together I will help you identify areas of your life you are wanting to address. Let’s discover what aligns with who you are in this moment. What do your behaviors indicate? What can we learn from your body and your nervous system?
This will not only include pinpointing challenges and barriers (blocks & hindrances) (how ready are you?) but also discovering strengths and support
(We’ll also establish indicators of success?)
Detailed interviewing process (too scary?)
2. We will then create our first action plan/(wellness plan?) with the strategies we’ve decided on together.
This will include SMART Goals as well as other useful methods and tools
3. We will track your progress with my system and adjust accordingly as we go (for example, if the goal we’ve set is too big for where you are right now then we scale it back to something that is)
4. End result? Leave with at the end of (a program with me?):
-Increased capacity - (for what?)
-New ways of thinking about and addressing challenges
Am I a pushy coach?
As your coach, I will NOT:
Push you . I prefer guidance and accountability.
Do pump you up cheerleading (it simply isn’t my personality).
Offer you a cookie-cutter program. I prefer to work 1:1 and go deep! I believe this effects more lasting change that feels true to you at this unique moment in your life.
.
What makes my coaching unique?
Compassionate & reflective listening - allowing a place for your story(ies) to be heard (helpful to hear stories you are telling yourself as well as feeling truly listened to be another)
I will meet you exactly what you are today
Authentic support and validation
Incremental but foundational goals/steps to build momentum and motivation to allow them to accumulate into big changes
I will help you go below the surface to the root of things (sometimes what we thought we needed to work on initially isn’t at all what we decide to address)
